About Us



Owner, Peter Herrero, began his love for the food industry by holding different positions in the hospitality business. His passion for making people feel special combined with his entrepreneurial spirit made him a perfect proprietor of Sam’s of Gedney Way. The choice to buy the legendary restaurant was the foundational step towards what would become the New York Hospitality Group.

A year and a half after becoming the owner of Sam’s, Peter met the love of his life, Karen, and soon they were married. Together began to build their family and subsequently their family business. The husband and wife team, natives of White Plains, truly believe in making their guests feel at home. The exceptional quality of food, friendly service and comfortable atmosphere has made Sam’s a favorite for eight decades. Whether you are dining with your family, friends or hosting a special occasion they will assure you the culinary experience will be a memorable one.

It was in 1986; Peter and Karen Herrero founded the New York Hospitality Group, which currently consists of Sam’s of Gedney Way Restaurant, two off-premise catering divisions; The Great American BBQ Co. and Caperberry Events. Their newest exciting venture, the “Everyday Healthy Café” has recently opened two locations; White Plains Hospital and at the White Plains Hospital Center for Cancer Care.


Our core business values to giving back to our community and charities plays an integral part in our mission. We donate approximately two percent of our sales to charity every year. Additionally, our community involvement is seen through our own family and associates active participation in charitable events, such as: the Food Bank for Westchester, Latino U, Westchester ARC, Westchester Children’s Association, and Visiting Nurse  Service; just to name a few. Our “Dining for Donations” program has been hugely successful to many organizations looking to do smaller cultivation events.

We have made a commitment to our food through the dedication of our chef who purchases only the freshest local ingredients. This commitment to sustainable sources, along with his delicious healthy recipes, ensures our guests’s unique epicurean experience.

Additionally, we have made a commitment to “Going Green” by using only LED light bulbs and high efficiency refrigeration, heating, and AC.

With over 30 venues to choose from, we will help you find the perfect location. In addition, our seasoned culinary teams have created menus by using only the freshest ingredients and sustainable foods bought from our purveyors and local farmers.
